RHEO 4 LEG PROSTHESES
A perfect balance of stability and dynamics.
Dynamic walking with an extra sense of confidence.
This highly effective microprocessor-controlled directory is the third generation member RHEO KNEE 4. RHEO KNEE 4 helps users feel they are always in control and takes their self-confidence to a whole new level. The additional gain for the average user is ultra stability, while more active people take advantage of their extra functionality. RHEO KNEE incorporates tried, tested, and proven technology with many improvements to make life easier. Unlike other microprocessor knees, which tend to impose their walking patterns on the user, this knee automatically adapts to the walking mode of choice.
- Facilitates stepping over stairs, obstacles, and stepping backward
- Change speed and direction easily
- You can move more naturally, even in a narrow space
- Think less about what to do and how to act better
- Walk longer with less energy and lead an active lifestyle
- Auto adaptive real-time stance and swing control
- Dependable and easy swing initiation on all surfaces
“RHEO KNEE 4 makes me walk light and natural. People hardly notice that I have a cut limb. I feel very safe and comfortable while I am using it. ”
“I don’t want to be limited to walking at preset speeds or have to change my direction extremely slowly. I want to act freely, confidently and naturally. I want to go my own way. ”
Your way
We listen, test, observe, and continue our efforts to make a better product because we know the importance of a smooth, safe, and energy-efficient way of movement. We know what it means to look natural and feel more natural as you walk. And here RHEO KNEE 4 offers you these.
SENSITIVE
We have added a kinematic sensor to provide even more confidence by increasing stability in the stance phase and while standing. • The knee detects what you want to do: When you are about to put your weight on it, and when you start to climb or go downstairs, it can tell you what kind of surface you are walking, in which direction, and how fast you are going. It can detect and react immediately, even when your foot is stuck or stumbled.
SMART
RHEO KNEE 4 adapts to the walking of the user, while the other microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knees force the person to walk. We also enlarged the battery pack to last three full days. This knee learns your favorite way of walking, instantly calculates what it should be in the next stage. Unlike other comparable knees that tend to impose their walking patterns on the user, this knee automatically adapts to your preferred walking style.
PROACTIVE
We increased the swing speed to increase mobility and safety and increased the level of posture resistance to make it easier to climb downhill and downstairs. • This knee acts like your knee. It bends at the right moment and helps to push fingers off the ground, and then quickly and safely regulates your weight on your forward movement. It adapts instantly to speed and direction changes and reacts quickly in unexpected situations, protecting users against the possibility of falling.
Evidence from clinical trials and studies …
To evaluate the performance of the new RHEO KNEE 4, Össur benefited from many existing studies on microprocessor knees and also conducted extensive clinical trials. These extensive experiments in different countries and with a range of moderate to highly active users have revealed interesting and statistically significant clinical data …
It now reaches a wider range of people.
One of the key points of the clinical data obtained is the fact that the new design has a positive effect on moderately active users and does not restrict more active users who are also making progress with RHEO KNEE 4.
1. A greater sense of safety and comfort. One of the standard outcome measures used in clinical tests is the test commonly known as the L Test. As a good indicator of stability and self-confidence, it is a timed test that follows the person subject to the test to get out of the chair and follow an L-shaped path (involves a rapid change of direction), then return to sit back in the chair. In clinical trials, 100% of low-active K3 users reached significantly faster times with the new RHEO KNEE 4 than 67% of more active users (p <0.05). The Prosthetic Assessment Questionnaire (PEQ) is a standard measurement used in experiments. With a series of questions, the comfort of the user is examined by asking to rate the perception of how comfortable the person using the prosthesis feels and self-confidence. The new RHEO KNEE 4 scored significantly higher scores on all subscales of this self-reporting measure, and 82% of its users experience greater comfort.
SAFETY AND COMFORT
RHEO KNEE 4 improves stability and comfort, awakens user confidence, and helps reduce the risk of falling.

POSITIVE SOCIAL IMPACT
RHEO KNEE 4 improves the quality of life, allows people to participate fully in their social and business interests, and helps reduce costs.
Health improvements can be calculated as QALY (Quality Adjusted Life Years); this tool measures the quality of life and quantity based on five dimensions: mobility, personal care, ordinary activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. The assessment shows that RHEO KNEE 4 has the potential to improve the quality of life in all five areas and around 42% overall. RHEO KNEE 4 can have a positive impact on health outcomes at an affordable cost, and it can be expected to save costs in its second year from the acquisition.
MORE MOVEMENT CAPABILITY
RHEO KNEE 4 improves energy efficiency, enhances people’s mobility, and helps them feel less tired.
Clinical researchers use the Two-Minute Walk Test (2MWT) when testing how far people can travel in a given period. Users walk up and down in a fixed area and the distance they travel within two minutes is calculated; The increase in distance acts as a benchmark for increased mobility. In addition to this test, the patient’s effort before and after walking was evaluated using the BORG Scale, which is a standard measurement of the perceived effort. In RHEO KNEE 4 experiments, 83% of users increased their walking distance in the timed test, and 82% of all users felt that they spent less effort after walking.
HEALTH ASSURANCE
RHEO KNEE 4 increases safety, comfort, and mobility, which are the starting factors of secondary pathologies such as low back pain or hip OA.
RHEO KNEE 4 combines improvements in safety, comfort and mobility (discussed above) to help reduce the likelihood of comorbidities such as osteoarthritis or (chronic) low back pain in the intact limb. These negative conditions tend to arise when mobility is at risk and limbs are loaded unbalanced. Significant increases in the comfort level perceived by people using RHEO KNEE 4 are particularly significant.
