PRODUCTION STAGES OF LEG PROSTHESIS

WE ARE WITH YOU FROM THE FIRST TIME

Compression therapy (bandaging, etc.) is the most important application for preparing the leg prosthesis, and it should be started immediately after surgery after the wounds of the residual limb heal. There are many question marks after the operation. Therefore, it may not be easy to decide which one will be most suitable for you. Therefore, we want to support you in finding the right solution for leg prosthesis technologies.

PRODUCTION STAGES OF A LEG PROSTHESIS

Evaluation

The choice of the correct prosthetic components for the orthopedic technician is decisive for the success of the application. The medical history is questioned, general posture, muscle strength, and shortness, the adaptation of the shape of the residual limb to the prosthesis by bandaging, skin, weight-bearing capacity, standing balance, skin sensitivity and wounds, phantom pain, walking requirement and motivation with the expectations of the person are evaluated. Weaknesses in the musculoskeletal structure are tried to be eliminated with physiotherapy. The residual limb is thus prepared for the leg prosthesis.

Measurement And Temporary Leg Prosthesis Application

Your leg prosthesis is prepared by measuring by our orthopedic technicians. Bandages are applied as soon as the wounds heal after the operation, and then a temporary leg prosthesis is applied. Our early application of the temporary prosthesis ensures that an early load is placed on the residual limb and prevents movement restrictions that may occur in the joints. It saves the person from adhering to bed and speeds up his active participation in daily life. It allows for an early evaluation of the problems that can be seen in the permanent prosthesis.

Permanent Leg Prosthesis Application

When the person using the temporary prosthesis can transfer his body weight equally to both legs, use the prosthesis for a full day, and the edema disappears completely, it is time for a permanent and definitive leg prosthesis. Here, it should be noted what kind of socket to apply or what type of material to use. For permanent leg prosthesis, your permanent leg prosthesis is applied by measuring again by our orthopedic technicians. The prosthetic parts are controlled with a laser system and the static adjustment of the leg prosthesis is made. Dynamic adjustment of the prosthesis is made by evaluating again on the laser posture device to make a customized adjustment.

Leg Prosthesis Rehabilitation

After the socket fit and leg prosthesis settings are completed, all walking and balance exercises are gradually taught, starting with wearing and removing the prosthesis, prosthesis care, sitting up, and transferring weight. At the end of the rehabilitation, the person should be able to walk up and down the stairs and walk along the ramp. The rehabilitation process is 2-20 days, depending on the condition of the person.

SOCKET OF THE LEG PROSTHESIS

It provides the integration of the leg prosthesis by including your stump socket. For this, it must fulfill certain features. The stump socket must be well clutched, neither too loose nor too tight. Its connection with the prosthesis must be safe. The socket is made individually by measuring according to the shape of the user’s residual limb. The socket is the load-bearing part of the prosthesis.

LINER MATERIALS IN PROSTHESIS LEG

The liner is passed over the stump like a second skin layer and acts as a protection between soft tissue and hard socket, thereby reducing friction and pressure. Choosing the right liner is important for comfort in the use of leg prostheses. Silicones are durable and easy to clean. It has antibacterial properties. It distributes the pressure equally. It is suitable for sensitive bone protruding squeezer stumps, as its shock-absorbing feature is very good.

LEG PROSTHESIS WITH A PIN SYSTEM

There is a screw on the end of the liner. When the liner is installed, the screw fits into its corresponding socket at the bottom of the socket. This screw provides the connection between the prosthesis and the prosthesis and is easily opened with the button pressed from the outside.

VACUUM SYSTEM LEG PROSTHESIS

There are different suspension systems using vacuum technology. Air is discharged between the liner and the socket, allowing the socket to hold stump. The vacuum is provided either passively by a valve or actively by a vacuum pump.

Valve System: Usually consists of a soft liner, a valve, and a knee pad. The air inside the socket is pushed out at the moment of pressing with the help of body weight and cannot enter again. The knee brace placed on the socket insulates the socket against the air and ensures that the socket is held all over.

Active Vacuum System (Harmony System):  All of the air between the liner and the socket is discharged. The system is activated at every step. Socket grip is more than passive vacuum systems. The harmony system minimizes friction forces within the socket. It regulates the stump volume and improves blood circulation. The full contact of the socket with the stump and its good grip causes the person to perceive the floor better and have confidence in his / her life and dominate the leg prosthesis in daily life.

STUMP SOCKS FOR LEG PROSTHESIS

The highest quality materials are used for stump socks. The wool socks and their mixtures are presented in a wide variety of socks, designed to meet different needs.
Stump socks can be used for:
• Protection from stump, flushing, inflammation and pressure points,
• To balance stump volume changes that may occur during the day,
• Facilitating liners without textile coating to enter the socket, protecting the liner.

KNEE TYPES USED IN KNEE LEG PROSTHESIS

3R60
Thanks to the 15-degree controlled bending of the knee with the heel strike, the loads affecting the stump, hips, and spine are reduced and the user feels safe. Easy to swing and adapt to different walking speeds are the aspects that increase comfort.

3R80
It provides control of posture and swing phases. It provides maximum harmony with the natural walking appearance. It provides the necessary safety and mobility especially for users with active dynamic and good muscle control. The most important feature is controlled and brake bending when under load up to about 80 degrees. This provides the user with exceptional comfort on uneven floors from ramps and stairs.

C-LEG
It is a fully microprocessor-controlled leg prosthesis system. It instantly adapts to different walking speeds, step lengths, and frequencies. It detects the load and angular values by measuring thanks to the sensors in its structure and the microprocessor creates a suitable response to it simultaneously. Thus, high safety is provided on all types of ground. It is the knee joint that provides the closest walk to natural walking. The person does not have to focus and feel uneasy at the time of pressing and can pay attention to his environment. It has been determined that energy consumption is minimized. Being able to walk safely and comfortably in a narrow space, among the crowd, on the stairs and the ramp, and not falling even if the foot is widened, expands the movement area of the person. It has a special mode for a selected sporting activity (cycling, skiing, etc.).

SPECIAL ADAPTERS FOR LEG PROSTHESIS

Wearing shoes comfortably, playing tennis, sitting comfortably inside the car, functional adapters will give your mobility a plus for your safety and comfort.

ROTATION ADAPTER: It is possible to easily get into the car, to wear your shoes and socks, or to cross your legs comfortably with the rotation adapter placed on the knee joint. In the sitting position, it is even possible to set up an adapter with the adapter, which allows the leg to turn 180 degrees to the left and right.

TORSION ADAPTER: It provides more mobility, safety, and comfort at work, at home, or in sports. It provides more symmetrical walking. If you pay attention to normal walking, you will notice that at each step, it turns slightly to the right and left. This rotation occurs mainly in the hip. However, the socket prevents this, you can perform the required rotation movement with this adapter placed on the knee joint. Thus, hitting and friction of the stump in the socket is reduced.

DELTA TWIST ADAPTER: It performs both torsion and shock-absorbing functions together. Both functions can be adjusted according to the individual. Reduces unwanted effects due to prosthesis use such as waist and back pain. It provides more symmetrical and closes walking with nature. Suitable for light sports activities.
